Story 9 of 10 in the Thursday 15 October editionSimons Foundation launches a $15 million effort to help mathematicians adapt to AI
Anthropic and OpenAI are each contributing $5 million to the foundation’s programme of workshops and projects on how mathematicians use AI.

The foundation announced the partnership on 15 October 2026 and will award the money itself, partly through an open call for proposals. The work it funds should help researchers check AI-assisted results, learn new tools and set shared standards for AI use. Its president, David Spergel, says mathematicians, rather than any one company or institution, should lead the debate on how the tools are judged and adopted. The announcement doesn’t say when the call opens.
