Story 7 of 8 in the Tuesday 13 October editionOpenAI says an employee hid a recording device in one of its offices
OpenAI says its own models helped identify the employee, and it referred the case to the FBI.
OpenAI said on X on 14 October that the employee planted the device a few days before it was found, and that its models helped work out what it was and where it came from. It thanked the FBI agents and prosecutors who moved quickly to make an arrest, and has fired the employee. OpenAI says it has no indication that the person improperly accessed or took model weights, source code or customer data, and hasn’t named them.
